okay today i learned that apparently the penis has a say in whether or not a child will be a boy or a girl

female sperm swims slower than male sperm, but the males can’t swim for as long as the females. this means that a long penis will be closer to the egg when releasing the sperm, and there will be a higher chance for the child to be a boy.

Yakone seems to forget that Tarrlok is 3 years younger, and therefore had the potential to be as much of a prodigy as his older brother.

Cutting your supply of quality revenge tools by 50% out of sheer impatience, Yakone how did you ever lead a whole gang??

Not sure exactly what Tarrlok’s potential was, but it does seem odd that they were being trained at the same level, at the same time, Tarrlok always seems to be doing quite well, and Yakone is angry that he’s not quite as accomplished as a brother who is both an incredible prodigy and three years older. The little information thing says that only ‘extremely advanced waterbenders’ can bloodbend at all. Tarrlok has reached that level at seven and is doing it at any time, with apparently zero encouragement, by … nine? ten? 

Yakone’s success is kind of painful.

Maybe that wasn’t the only reason why Yakone mistreated Tarrlok? It seems like he was also irritated by some qualities of Tarrlok’s personality (quite possibly even before the whole bloodbending thing). It almost looks like he was always searching for a reason to get angry at Tarrlok (which was not very hard to find, because it goes wrong when Tarrlok gets frightened (then Yakone yells at him and he gets even more frightened, and so on). Yakone simply didn’t care.

Yeah, I was always under the impression that Yakone thought Tarrlok was a “weakling” as much because of the way he acted as because of his good-but-not-as-good-as-Noatak bending talents.

The Northern Water Tribe was always big on gender roles and Tarrlok… doesn’t fit his role really well. =(
